I'm told that in passing conversations with the GM Murray he has been told that the Sens won't make a move unless it's for the future as expected. He also said that there still is a lot of pressure on Murray to make a big move from above. The 2nd round is their goal this season to keep money in owner Eugene Melnyk's pockets. He also said Sergei Gonchar could be the surprise to be moved while Kuba has Murrays respect. Trade Deadline Morning Canadian Team Round-Up
Ottawa Senators
*-> Sens fans shouldn't expect anything major now that Bryan Murray has brought in a goaltender to add some insurence to his crease. Murray has stated in the past few weeks that he's not willing to part with any prospects or picks for a run this season and would more or less lean on his current roster or only bring in pieces to the puzzle not rental players. With that being said it's rumored that would like a defenseman but only if they could swap one for another. Brian Lee is a solid candidate as a player they love to move to add more reliable depth. Filip Kuba has been rumored since his arrival in Ottawa to be on the chopping block. The Sens are still looking for that secondary offense to add consistency to their attack as well as some veteran leadership. The players that have been linked as of late is Christ Stewart of the Blues, Ray Whitney of the Coyotes, and Brian Rolston of the Islanders.
Toronto Maple Leafs
*-> Brian Burke is afraid to speak his mind about anything and this includes what he's working on. Burke has said the Leafs would love to add a goaltender to help push his tandem and add some stability. The Oilers have been reported to have offered Nikolai Khabibulin to the Buds but Burke wasn't ready to give in. It's rumored he's pushing hard at Ron Wilsons request to bring in Evgeni Nabokov but the Isle's arn't ready to make a move yet. The Leafs also would love to add a big center as most teams would but they would be willing to add any offensive upgrade they can. Mikhail Grabovski is rumored to have attracted a 1st round draft pick that Burke is sitting on and Nikolai Kulemin and Clarke MacArthur are also rumored to be avaliable if the right offer came their way. Another name to think about is Luke Schenn who attracted a ton of interest leading up to the deadline and was brought up in almost every talk Burke has had with rivals. Name the Leafs have been exploring? well if you haven't heard and have been living under a rock Rick Nash has reportedly listed Toronto as a destination he'd be willing to explore.
Winnipeg Jets
*-> The Winnipeg Jets are barely clinging on to a playoff spot but with a strong finish they could find their first season back making a run for the Cup. The Jets would love to be buyers but currently they're not commited to being buyers or sellers. The Jets can use an upgrade at almost every position except in net they feel. Defense is a major weakness and they could also use someone to help their offense out. Don't expect a big day for the Jets unless they can find moves that make sense for now and for the future. The Jets are rumored to be highly interested in shopping UFA's such as Jim Slater, Kyle Wellwood, Tim Stapleton, Randy Jones, and the one Jet whose attracted the most interest Johnny Oduya, the main name that keeps coming up in Jets talks. Former orginal Jet and current Duck Teemu Selanne has been linked to the franchise since it's rebirth but is highly unlikely unless the Ducks decide they're 100% out which most likely won't happen.
Montreal Canadiens
*-> Montreal will quite possibly be the busiest Canadian team today as they have a long long almost impossible road to climb to making the playoffs as they sit dead last in the East. Montreal could use offensive help including a big power forward center like the Leafs. Montreal feels that their current roster with a few tweaks could be that team we saw shock and upset. The Habs want to move any parts that arn't moving in the right direction with them. It's said that almost everybody could be had for the right price including Tomas Plecanec. Recently acquired Rene Bourque is rumored to be had for a "hockey" deal. P.K Subban has even been linked to rumors after season long altercations with his own teamates. Scott Gomez is a player the Habs are dying to move, while Andrei Kostitsyn and Travis Moen have drawn interest but the Canadiens management are still on the fence about trading the pending UFA's. Defenseman Chris Campoli another UFA won't have the same fate and the Habs will look to push him out the door. Mathieu Darche's name has come up as an affordable veteran to boost any teams PK and 3rd and 4th lines.
Vancouver Canucks
*-> With Keith Ballard out on long term injury, Canucks fans are salivating at the cap space avaliable as are the Canucks brass I'm sure. The Canucks already have a contender built but they would love to make a move to put them over the top. I'm hearing the Canucks would love to add a gritty offensive peice to the puzzle such as Steve Ott, or Dustin Brown. They could use a depth defenseman but don't look for a major player just someone to be able to fill in. The Canucks have been rumored to be shopping Mason Raymond and as always the Canucks crease is being watched as many expect Cory Schnieder will eventually have to be dealt. Rick Nash has been a rumored player despite the Canucks not being on his list and the Canucks denying any interest.
Calgary Flames
*-> If you ask anyone on the Flames roster they are still very much so in the mix for the 8th and final playoff spot. Jay Feaster would love to continue to add to his team while setting it up for the future. The Flames have a decision to make today on several UFA's mainly Olli Jokinen who could bring in a good return but almost certainly add a bit of a struggle to their already tough battle for a spot in the West. With the Flames defense recently returning back to full health the Flames should be looking to add some character forwards and anyone offensive that can help put them over the top in their battle. That's not be be said that Feaster isn't interested in adding to his backend but with limited money the Flames would have to make a player for player deal. Jeff Carter was heavily rumored so it could be safe to say the Flames want that center to be Jarome Iginla's centerpiece.
Edmonton Oilers
*-> The Edmonton Oilers will be the busiest Canadian team in the West as they currently are out of the hunt. The Oilers are quite happy in their position though putting them in the hunt for yet another high draft pick and some quality players for their unwanted players. it's no secret that the Oilers would love to add that top pairing defenseman but also could use some help up front as well. Ales Hemsky was just recently signed by the Oilers but my sources tell me that he could be moved today if a major offer. Ryan Smyth was also rumored to be moving locations but with his no trade clause and his determination to stay and retire an Oiler. Ben Eager and Darcy Hordichuk could be two role players that could be easily replaced in the off season while Theo Peckham and Linu Omark could be dangled to entice any teams looking for young help. Nikolai Khabibulin is the wild card if the Oilers are willing to part with his services.
Ice Scoopz: Trade Deadline 7am
Monday, February 27, 2012
The big day is finally here! Welcome to Trade Deadline Day 2012 on Ice Scoopz.ca. Stay tuned as we'll have live coverage all day long right up until 7pm. Not much stirring this morning yet but that doesn't stop the rumors here's a few quick ones to mull over while you have your coffee.
*-> The Vancouver Canucks are looking hard at Steve Ott of the Dallas Stars. The Stars have yet to decide if their trading Ott yet as their still in the mix for the post season. Ott has been a loyal soldier for the Stars and that might factor in today.
*-> Dean Lombardi of the Los Angeles Kings claims he's not shopping Captain Dustin Brown despite the team acquiring Jeff Carter this week. TSN's Bob McKenzie has stated otherwise saying he's heard he's avaliable for the right price.
*-> The Montreal Canadiens are rumored to be very active today and a name that has only emerged the past 24 hours is Tomas Plecanec. The word is he is avaliable if it can bring in that power forward center the team covets.
I'll have more in 10 minutes or so including a Canadian team round-up with what to expect today as well as the Ice Scoopz Top 10 Players To Move List.
Ice Scoopz: Deadline Evening Rumors
Sunday, February 26, 2012
A few rumors to touch on before tomorrow so I'll get right to them.
*-> It's been rumored the Montreal Canadiens and the Nashville Predators are in talks regarding Andrei Kostitsyn. It was said last week the Belarussian winger was unhappy with his club and even made some on camera remarks about teammate P.K Subban but now it appears he's gone back to his would like to remain with the team stance. The Preds are looking for some secondary scoring still and Kostitsyn fits the bill and would be reunited with his brother. It's been reported the Preds have offered the Canadiens the rights to KHL star Alexander Radulov.
*-> Another unhappy player and also a former Canadien Roman Hamrlik is in the doghouse with coach Dale Hunter after making a series of comments about his coach to the media. Hamrlik has been a consistant healthy scratch in Washington and may be shipped out as Washington looks to get a spark.
*-> While on the subject of Washington Mike Knuble is also in the doghouse with Hamrlik but not much is known why the veteran winger has been a recent healthy scratch. George McPhee has told the media in the past weeks that he's not looking to trade Knuble nor has he asked to be moved. His UFA status this summer may be the deciding factor however.

Trade! Ottawa -> St. Louis
Sunday, February 26, 2012
*-> The Ottawa Senators have addressed the recent injury to goaltender Craig Anderson by picking up Ben Bishop off the St. Louis Blues for a 2013 2nd round draft pick. The Senators quickly turned around and signed the AHL stand out to a 1 year 1 way contract.
The Sens addressed a weakness going into the playoffs. I would have liked them to pick up a veteran goaltender whose proven but this shows the Senators have faith in Craig Anderson returning for a playoff run. The Blues could have asked for more in my opinion for the giant Ben Bishop who has shown that he's capable of dominating the AHL.
Ice Scoopz: Friday Evening
Friday, February 24, 2012
*-> After having a battle with the Go Daddy servers it appears ionce again able to log on to the site just in time. Earlier Ales Hemsky has signed a 2 year deal to stay with the Edmonton Oilers worth 5$ million per year or 10$ million overall.Trade! New Jersey -> Minnesota
Friday, February 24, 2012
*-> The Minnesota Wild have finally pulled the trigger on dealing the unhappy Marek Zidlicky to the New Jersey Devils. The Devils had to give up an arm and a leg for the d-man as they gave up a 2nd round draft pick,a conditional 3rd round pick, Kurtis Foster, Stephane Vellieux and Nick Palmieri.Trade! LA -> Columbus
Thursday, February 23, 2012
*-> The Columbus Blue Jackets have unloaded Jeff Carter to the Los Angeles Kings for Jack Johnson and a 1st round draft pick.Ice Scoopz:Thursday Noon
Thursday, February 23, 2012
*-> Brian Burke has said the Toronto Maple Leafs have spoken with the Columbus Blue Jackets about Rick Nash but still haven't tabled an offer for Rick Nash but have a slight interest in the star forward. Nothing firm Burke has told TSN.
Trade! Columbus -> Phoenix
Wednesday, February 22, 2012
*-> The Columbus Blue Jackets have dealt center Antoine Vermette to the Phoenix Coyotes for a 2012 2nd round draft pick, a 5th round draft pick and goaltender Curtis McElhinney.Trade! Detroit ->Tampa Bay
Tuesday, February 21, 2012
*-> In an incredible deal the Tampa Bay Lightning have flipped Kyle Quincey to the Detroit Red Wings for their 2012 1st round draft pick.Trade! Colorado->Tampa Bay
Tuesday, February 21, 2012
*-> The Bolts continue to sell off their spare parts as the Lightning have sent Steve Downie to Colorado for defenseman Kyle Quincey.Ice Scoopz: Tuesday Afternoon
Tuesday, February 21, 2012
*-> A slow moving Tuesday for rumors. Sunday and Monday was also scary silent as well. Not too much to report except for a quick Carolina rumor. Hopefully my Sens source will make time to give me an update like he promised on Saturday. Anyways TSN has broken the rumor that the Carolina Hurricanes have told Tuomo Ruutu he has till Wednesday to decide on their offer they gave to him over a week ago. If they cannot come to terms by Wednesday the Canes plan to shop Ruutu and take their chances in him returning July 1st. I've heard a short term deal was offered by Carolina while Ruutu is asking for a long term.Trade! Philly -> Tampa Bay
Saturday, February 18, 2012
*-> TSN has reported that Pavel Kubina has been traded from the Tampa Bay Lightning to the Flyers for their 2nd and 5th round draft picks.Ice Scoopz: Saturday Afternoon
Saturday, February 18, 2012
*-> It's believed the New York Rangers and the Tampa Bay Lightning are in talks regarding Pavel Kubina. Its rumored that the Rangers and the Toronto Maple Leafs were listed on his will go to list he provided yesterday to Steve Yzerman.Ice Scoopz: Saturday Afternoon
Saturday, February 18, 2012
*-> A slow afternoon after a flurry of rumors this morning. I'm expecting a Sens source call this afternoon so I'll have that for you Ottawa fans whenever it comes. The only new news I've acquired so far is that the Flyers have indeed talked to Howsen and the Blue Jackets about Rick Nash. Despite Philly GM Paul Holmgren ruling out a potential blockbuster the Flyers are trying include themselves in the mix for Rick Nash. I've heard San Jose is a little set back by the Jackets asking price. I'm also hearing that Dean Lombardi of the Kings is willing to part with both Jonathan Bernier and Jack Johnson for Nash. The Rangers still appear to be interested but as many have said are worried about ruining room chemistry and may not wanna tamper with success untill the offseason. No word out of Toronto this morning. A wild rumor out of Chicago is a Patrick Kane for Rick Nash and a defenseman swap. I'm still guessing the Jackets are gunna wait till last minute to decide and most likely ship him out East so he won't haunt them in the future although the playoffs are still years away for Columbus.Ice Scoopz: Saturday Morning
Saturday, February 18, 2012
*-> More rumors for you on this sunny Saturday morning in Ottawa. For you Sens fans I should be getting a call today from my Sens source who has promised to give me one name he knows his bosses have their eyes on before that though another quick rumor out of Nashville. The Preds are looking for some offensive help now as David Poille is ready to make a push. Offensive help is next for the Preds. I think Andrei Kostitsyn can be ruled out for now otherwise the Preds could have worked him in to yesterdays deal while Poille has said his club has no interest in the other often rumored winger Hemsky. I've heard both those names consistently related to the Preds but a name that has recently surged is P.A Parenteau whose contract negotiations have been rumored to have hit a snag on Long Island. Many people are also saying the Gill deal spells the end for Ryan Suter but I'm thinking that unless a killer offer is made for Suter he'll remain a Predator till the draft if they cannot come to terms he's too important to give up on right now.Ice Scoopz: Saturday Morning
Saturday, February 18, 2012
*-> Just got wind of a rumor that seams to be picking up steam. I'm hearing the Edmonton Oilers and the Los Angeles Kings are in talks. I'm hearing major interest in Ales Hemsky and another player on the Kings side while the Oilers are likeing Jonathan Bernier in return.Ice Scoopz: Saturday Morning
Saturday, February 18, 2012
*-> The Boston Bruins are trying to get figured out before the deadline and have made contract extension offers to Gregory Campbell, Daniel Paille, Shawn Thornton and Chris Kelly.Ice Scoopz: Saturday Morning
Saturday, February 18, 2012
*-> It's been reported that Pavel Kubina has provided the Tampa Bay Lightning with a list of teams he'd prefer. From what I'm hearing Kubina is open to almost any team in the playoff race and won't handicap the Lightning by making it difficult. Many are saying Kubina is a class act and wants to help the Lightning by accepting a deal and then focus on helping his new team win a Cup. As for teams interested I've heard that Detroit has made an offer for Kubina. The Blackhawks are also rumored to be interested as are the Devils.Trade! Montreal -> Nashville
Friday, February 17, 2012
*-> TSN has just reported that the Montreal Canadiens have traded Hal Gill to the Nashville Predators for Blake Geoffrion, Robert Slaney and a 2nd round draft pick. Rumors also have a conditional draft pick heading Nashvilles way.Ice Scoopz: Friday Morning
Friday, February 17, 2012
*-> Something could be going on with Luke Schenn, I'm hearing rumblings out of Toronto once again involving Schenn being shopped hard for that power forward the Leafs covet. I'm not hearing Philly being mentioned much but now that Nash fever has hit TO it's all Columbus and or L.A. I'm hearing Dustin Penner's name come up a lot.
*-> Mike Knuble is not being shopped nor has he asked for a trade GM George McPhee has told the Washington media yesterday morning. Reports had the big winger being shopped after being a healthy scratch for 3 games.
*-> I've heard a wild rumor this morning out of Florida that has Bryan McCabe contemplating unretiring to return to the NHL for a potential playoff run with the Panthers.
*-> Speaking of NHL returns recent reports have Alexander Radulov returning to the Nashville Predators from Salavat UFA of the KHL just in time for playoffs. I'm told that this is not true at all as Salavat remains in the playoff picture and Radulov would have to sign before Trade Deadline Day which is highly unlikely.
*-> Travis Moen is in Detroit's sights now with Dominic Moore moving to the West with the Sharks. The Wings are looking to bolster their bottom six and the Montreal Canadiens are looking to move some UFA's. Detroit isn't keen on Montreals asking price for an injured player I'm told.
*-> Detroit is also looking at Teemu Selanne who doesn't appear to be ready to consider moving quite yet. The San Jose Sharks have reportedly reached out to Selanne about a possible deal as well.
*-> San Jose is also interest in Ray Whitney of the Phoenix Coyotes but the Yotes arn't willing to sell unless they get equal pieces back.
*-> Ales Hemsky isn't on the Nashville Predators radar according to the Nashville brass.
*-> It appears no-one is safe in Columbus as the Columbus management has pretty much said make us an offer and if it helps us we'll look at it. The Blue Jackets are rumored to be looking at bringing in players to help rebuild but not completely start fresh. They wish to be able to try a a quick turn-around like the Ottawa Senators have done by bringing in pieces as well as future. It appears for the right deal the entire roster if up for discussion.
*-> On the topic of Columbus again lots of talk again of Jeff Carter being swapped with Jack Johnson of the Kings. Jeff Carter has also been mentioned surprise surprise to Toronto as well.
That's it for now but remember that is Ice Scoopz is Trade Deadline Day and we'll have indepth coverage and analysis from 7am EST to 7pm starting with a Trade Deadline preview Sunday Evening. Minute to minute rumor updates, breaking news and deals as they come down the pipeline. Make Ice Scoopz your Trade Deadline headquarters!
Ice Scoopz: Friday Early Morning
Friday, February 17, 2012
*-> A quick rumor to start off todays day. It looks to be a busy weekend and Ice Scoopz.ca will have full coverage right up to and all day Trade Deadline Day from 7am Eastern right up until 7pm! Make Ice Scoopz your number one stop! I'm hearing the Washington Capitals are looking hard at Columbus Blue Jacket Antoine Vermette.Trade! Dallas -> Philly
Thursday, February 16, 2012
*-> In another earlier deal that caught me well literally napping, the Flyers have added their defensive help they've been looking for as they acquired Nicklas Grossman from the Dallas Stars for a 2012 2nd round draft pick they acquired previously from the Los Angeles Kings and a 3rd round draft pick they acquired from the Minnesota Wild.
Grossman's a solid defensive defenseman something they've been looking for since Chris Pronger went down with his season ending injury. A good pick -up for the Flyers but at an expensive cost of 2 draft picks for a defensive rental although the Flyers had some extras this year and had to add some support on the backend moving into the playoffs but ether way Grossman's a UFA this summer so.
Trade! Dallas -> Philly

Trade! Edmonton -> Anaheim
Thursday, February 16, 2012
*-> In an earlier trade this evening the Edmonton Oilers traded forward Ryan O'Marra to the Anaheim Ducks for defenseman Bryan Rodney.
Nothing major here except a little depth deal, the former 15th overall draft pick Ryan O'Marra has yet to live up to any hype while Bryan Rodney is a servicable depth defenseman. The Oilers come out of this deal with a defenseman who can easily squeze into their weak blueline and add additional depth.
Trade! San Jose -> Tampa Bay
Thursday, February 16, 2012
*-> The Tampa Bay Lightning have traded the often traded Dominic Moore to the San Jose Sharks for a 2nd round draft pick in 2012.
The Sharks are looking to bolster their back half of their line up and Dominic Moore is the perfect piece to the puzzle as he can provide good offensive depth if needed but mainly be a reliable checking line center and can log minutes on the PK. I also like the move for the Bolts, gives them a 2nd rounder to work with for a guy who most likely wasn't returning.
Ice Scoopz: Thursday Afternoon
Thursday, February 16, 2012
*-> According to reports the Toronto Maple Leafs is Rick Nash's number one choice to be traded to. Leafs fans everywhere are already calling it a done dea although its a long ways away from anything but a rumor for now. I'm hearing now that the Blue Jackets want a young player with potential, a highly touted prospect and a high draft pick. Some are saying they want a future goalie included instead of that roster player. I'm hearing reports out of Boston that the Bruins are dangling Thomas while the Kings dangling Jonathan Bernier. Would Vancouver be willing to shop Luongo or Schneider??Ice Scoopz: Thursday Lunch
Thursday, February 16, 2012
*-> Add Los Angeles and Montreal Canadiens to the list of teams that have 100% contacted the Columbus Blue Jackets about star winger Rick Nash.Ice Scoopz: Thursday Lunch
Thursday, February 16, 2012
*-> GM Steve Tambellini has said that Sam Gagner is off the market and doesn't wish to trade him. He also said Nikolai Khabibulin isn't in his plans to shop but he also didn't rule out shopping the veteran goalie if the right offer came his way.Ice Scoopz: Thursday Morning
Thursday, February 16, 2012
*-> A little update on Pavel Kubina, Steve Yzerman has said he plans to trade Kubina in the near future and while no deal is close Kubina has played his last game as a Lightning and will sit as a precaution. No update on the Schenn to Tampa rumors however.
*-> Andrei Kostitsyn has told the Montreal media that the rumors of him asking to be traded arn't true and he has yet to speak to his agent. However he also said that he has "not yet" asked and will wait out 2 games before anything happens indicating he is unhappy in Montreal. Last month he inidcated that he'd like to stay in Montreal even at a discount rate but he hasn't felt wanted in the past month by the Montreal coaching staff. This could be interesting. Lots of talk of Nashville wishing to reunite the brothers.
*-> Marek Zidlicky might have to wait a while as ChuckFletcher has said he has several teams interested. The Chicago Blackhawks have entered the fray as have the New York Rangers it's said.
*-> Last rumor before lunch. I've now heard that the Dallas Stars have officially contacted Columbus about Rick Nash. I've also heard the Bruins could be offering Tim Thomas the Blue Jackets way along with an important prospect. I've also heard that Vancouver is highly interested as of this morning.
Ice Scoopz: Breaking News
Thursday, February 16, 2012
*-> I've just been tipped off to a potential deal going down. I was told by a source to watch the Tampa Bay Lightning this morning. I'm hearing that Pavel Kubina didn't participate in todays practice and the Lgihtning have called a press conference. This all could be nothing or it could be a sign a deal is on the way. I've heard from the same source that he believes that it involves Luke Schenn. This again may or may not be true I'm just reporting what I'm hearing. Ryan Malone is another name that seams to be popping up the Leafs way.
*-> While on the Leafs Sportsnet is reporting that Rick Nash has said Toronto is a likable destination. So that being said I think the Leafs would wait on that option rather than revist the Pavel Kubina route and get a lesser player in Malone but you be the judge. We'll have to wait an see.
**-> Update -> I'm hearing that the Devils and Wild negotiations are ongoing inregards to Marek Zidlicky. I'm hearing the Wild have only asked so far while exploring their other options.
Ice Scoopz: Thursday Morning
Thursday, February 16, 2012
*-> Captain Canada Ryan Smyth will not be going anywhere this trade deadline as Smyth and GM Steve Tambellini had private discussions on the rugged wingers future with the Oilers and the decesion was made he'd remain in the orange and blue as announced to the media yesterday.Ice Scoopz: Thursday Morning
Thursday, February 16, 2012
*-> Things around the league are starting to pick up, lots of chatter. I think this weekend could be the start of the dominos falling. I talked to my Sens source last night to try an update all of my Sens fans and I managed to get a few interesting tidbits on what could be in store. I asked about how serious Ottawa was on Tuomu Ruutu before he got hurt and was told a lot of it was just hearsay. They are looking for a player of his type for sure, someone who can play a secondary scoring role but also a 3rd line if needed. I was also told they'd rather someone already on a contract but "pressure" was on to make it to the 2nd round atleast so a rental player could happen. I also asked about the goaltending situation to which he just replied backup....summer. I tried to get some names out of him of players potentially targetted but he wouldn't say much except think needs and age. Which leads me to believe the young Sens will take a look at some veteran forwards with offense that can plug in on the 2nd line which isn't a major surprise.Ice Scoopz: Wenesday Evening
Wednesday, February 15, 2012
*-> Luke Schenn of the Toronto Maple Leafs is a healthy scratch tonight so that could be a possible indicator of a potential deal especially with the injuiries to the Leafs back end as of late. We'll have to keep an eye out. Philly are still rumored to be heavily interested.Ice Scoopz: Wenesday Morning
Wednesday, February 15, 2012
*-> I'm hearing that Dustin Penner is being shopped by the Los Angeles Kings, a source told me that Penner is being dangled in an attempt to clear up cap space for another move. The Leafs are rumored to have mild interest in Penner while it's being rumored that both the Leafs and the Kings want Rick Nash. Teams are starting to come out of the woodwork now. The Boston Bruins are linked as are the New York Rangers who are considered the heavy favorites and have been rumored to have offered Brandon Dubinsky.Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Morning
Wednesday, February 15, 2012
*-> Marek Zidlicky of the Minnesota Wild has agreed to waive his no trade clause its being reported. It looks the the New Jersey Devils should have a deal done shortly for the disgruntled offensive D-man.Ice Scoopz: Tuesday Afternoon
Tuesday, February 14, 2012
*-> The Rick Nash watch is now on according to several Columbus journalists. TSN has also ran a story this morning on Rick Nash's avaliability as well making it this first time in his career Rick Nash could be dealt. That being said TSN's Bob McKenzie had some very good points, mainly what team and IF Rick Nash gets traded is all in his hands and no-one elses. It was rumored last week he told family friends he was unhappy in Columbus and that most likely triggered the conversation between Nach and Scott Howsen so it's expected if Nash can find himself the right fit and Howsen the right deal Nash could be moving. It's highly unlikely Nash would be moving before Trade deadeline day but at this years Entry Draft it very well could be possible. As for what teams would be interested, I'd say the better question would be who wouldn't be interested?
*-> A minor trade between the Anaheim Ducks and the Winnipeg Jets took place this afternoon with the Ducks sending center Riley Holzapfel to the Jets for center Maxime Macenauer.
*-> I'm hearing that Tuomo Ruutu is close to a deal with the Carolina Hurricanes. Both sides have been in talks for several weeks so Ruutu could be pulled off the market shortly unless they cannot come to terms or the Canes get an offer they can't refuse.
*-> It's also rumored that Olli Jokinen and the Flames are in talks.
*-> James Wisniewski of the Columbus Blue Jackets has told the organization he'd like to stay and help out with the rebuild.
Tuesday Noon
Tuesday, February 7, 2012
*-> Reports out of Columbus have Blue Jacket star Rick Nash unhappy with the organization. Close friends of Rick Nash and his family have reportedly told the Columbus media that while Rick would never ask for a trade he would certainly welcome a trade out of the city. This isn't the first time these rumors have surfaced and Nash is an extremely loyal soldier to the Jackets so unless Scott Howsen feels the need to deal their franchise player it won't happen. A lengthy list of suitors would be out there for the Blue Jackets if they were to shop Nash however.Tuesday Morning
Tuesday, February 7, 2012
*-> I'm hearing lots of rumblings about teams inquiring about Travis Moen of the Montreal Canadiens. The San Jose Sharks have now been added to the list of teams that want Moens experience. The Detroit Red Wings and the Vancouver Canucks have both been linked to the rugged winger. The one set back could be Moens off again on again "upperbody" injury.Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Morning
Wednesday, February 1, 2012
*-> Lots of rumors surrounding the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Toronto Maple Leafs this morning. A wild trade rumor has come out of left field claiming that a deal is in the works that would send Kristian Huselius and Rick Nash to Toronto for Luke Schenn, Nazim Kadri, Mike Komisarek and Mikhail Grabovski. A little wishful thinking in my opinion. Another CBL\Leafs rumor out there is Jeff Carter to the Leafs for Mike Komisarek and Grabovski. Burke has already said he has no interest in dealing Grabovski but I'm sure he would take a look at Jeff Carter.Ice Scoopz: Saturday Morning
Saturday, January 28, 2012
*-> Former Montreal Canadien Patrice Brisbois has reported that he's heard a possible deal going down between the Vancouver Canucks and the Anaheim Ducks. He's reported that Vancouver is offering up Cory Schneider and Mason Raymond to the Ducks for Corey Perry. I don't believe the Ducks would be willing to part with Perry for a slumping player and a starter when they have a quite capable goalie in Jonas Hiller. A rumor is a rumor though.Ice Scoopz: Saturday Morning

*-> Surprisingly Antero Nittymaki went unclaimed yesterday. He'll report to the AHL. Reports have him extremely frustrated with the Sharks and is considering asking to be traded to another team or loaned to a European club till his contract expires. I was told by my Sens insider that he's not what teams are watching for meaning there could be a bigger domino to fall first. He also informed me that there's at least 6 goalies available right now so there's no panic. *-> While on my Sens contact, I didn't get much useful insider information from him other than he's been told the Sens will make a move deadline day or leading up to the deadline. When asked who they could be interested in he only would say offensive depth and a defenseman if they moved a defenseman like planned. He also said that he hadn't heard of Ales Hemsky or if he could be coming to Ottawa. The rumor on the internet is that the Sens are looking to part with Kuba while he's hot and bring in a "stable" presence. I have heard Andy Sutton once again mentioned. *-> GM Brian Burke of the Toronto Maple Leafs have shut down any rumors about Mikhail Grabovksi being shopped. He said Grabovski is an important part of any chance the Leafs have of a playoff shot. The Leafs are still rumored to be hounding the Anaheim Ducks. *-> The Vancouver Canucks are talking to the Montreal Canadiens about Travis Moen. Montreal likes Mason Raymond who is said to be availiable.Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Afternoon

*-> Antero Nittymaki has been placed on waivers by the San Jose Sharks. I highly expect he'll be claimed and have a new address when all is said and done. I'm hearing the Senators could be interested, I have yet to get a response from my inside source but was told 2 weeks ago the Sens had mild interest in a goaltender. I'm also hearing the Blue Jackets might be interested "Nitty" with intentions to try and shop Curtis Sanford at the deadline. The Tampa Bay Lightning are reportedly out of the hunt for a goalie but there's still a few out there saying that the Bolts might add a netminder just incase they shop Dwayne Roloson. *-> I've heard that Anaheim and the Leafs have been speaking but for those about to rush to Ryan Getzlaf or Bobby Ryan conclusions it appears to be smaller. *-> With Francois Beauchemin signed for next season lots of rumors swirling about Lubomir Vishnovksy's status. It's believed he could be had for a high price. The New York Rangers are looking hard at bringing in a PP specialist. *-> While on the Rangers, it looks like Woltek Wolski has played himself out of another city. The Rangers are looking to clear some space for a deadline depth move. *-> Philly is still looking for a defenseman, Hal Gill's name keeps coming up along with Ryan Suter and Luke Schenn.Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Afternoon

*-> The San Jose Sharks are apparently looking at defenseman Marek Zidlicky and the Hurricanes Tim Gleason. I'm hearing up to 8 teams have inquired about Tim Gleason. *-> The Anaheim Duck's GM Bob Murray has said once again he won't trade Teemu Selanne unless he asks. Some are saying that Selanne would be interested if it was a sure fire contender such as Detroit who has expressed interest. The Jets have no interest in Teemu Selanne it's also being said. There still on the fence and arn't willing to sell future for a first round exit. *-> Reports have the Bruins management and teamates fuming at Tim Thomas and speculation is at the end of the season Thomas could be had as his no trade clause expires and Rask is now ready to be the future. *-> Carolina has confirmed they'll be sellers this deadline but won't do a rebuild just more of a retool.Ice Scoopz: Tuesday Morning

*-> Marek Zidlicky is being shopped by the Wild after being healthy scratch for the first time in his Minnesota career. Its said the Wild are looking for some top 6 offensive help. The usual suspects are linked mainly the Edmonton Oilers and the Flyers.Ice Scoopz: Monday Afternoon
Monday, January 23, 2012
*-> Lots of chatter around the Predators. Reports are saying Nashville is close to making a move to bring in some offense. I heard a blockbuster style deal to Edmonton as Edmonton has plenty of youthful forwards to swap for an elite defenseman. I've heard both Ryan Suter and Shea Weber being mentioned along with Ales Hemsky and MPV of the Oilers. Its a long shot as the Preds would love to keep the pair together. I've also heard the Preds have had interest in Andrei Kostitsyn for quite some time and even tried to get a package deal when brother Sergei was traded for Dan Ellis and Dustin Boyd. Andrei maintains he wants to stay in MTL next season and would even take a hometown discount to stay.Ice Scoopz: Monday Afternoon
Monday, January 23, 2012
*-> The Buffalo Sabre's are looking like big time sellers leading up to the deadline. The word is that the Sabres are looking to unload and retool for next season. Its said there's a few candidates to be traded but not all the Sabres are up for grabs. Brad Boyes, Derek Roy and Drew Stafford all appear to be on the block. Roy is getting interest out of Ottawa while it's said the Oilers have eyes for Stafford.Ice Scoopz: Monday Morning
Monday, January 23, 2012
*-> The Dallas Stars and defenseman Alex Goligoski have signed a contract extension worth 18.4$ million over 4 years. *-> I'm hearing more and more Ben Bishop talk out of Tampa Bay. The Bolts need help in nets badly which is probably stirring these rumors but they already have a goaltending in waiting they believe so I'm thinking Stevey Y goes after a proven goaltender to help his ailing tandem. I also wouldn't be surprised if the Bolts look to shop Dwayne Roloson to a team looking for a veteran presence and leadership.Trade! Carolina -> New Jersey

Back on the grind this morning as our sites technical difficulties have been resolved once again. The move to the new site has not gone as smoothly as planned at all and we're still working out the bugs of our new home. It appears to be clear sailing once again with perfect timing as Trade Deadline Day looms. Ice Scoopz is still your number one Trade Deadline headquarters so join us in the next few weeks leading up to D-Day! Here's a few rumors to think about while having your coffee.
*-> Rumors around the league have several teams looking long and hard at Ales Hemsky of the Edmonton Oilers. From what I'm hearing the Oil have made the internal decesion to shop Hemsky to see if they can land a top 4 blueliner or a high draft pick for him. Several teams have expressed interest in the often injured winger. The Ottawa Senators have been linked all season long as well as the Detroit Red Wings. I'm also hearing the Minnesota Wild are interested now that Captain Mikko Koivu is out and a playoff push is needed.
*-> A report yesterday morning claims several teams are interested in Edmonton's Ryan Smyth. The Oilers would be open to dealing him if he were to be willing to waive his no trade clause. The Oiler's would only be interested if he was interested in returning during the off season.
*-> While on the Sens I'm hearing Ottawa native Derek Roy could be a target come deadline day if the price is affordable. Roy is out there and the Sabre's management is close to selling off more extra parts if the playoff hopes keep slipping. Buffalo is asking for a young player to help now in return for Roy. I'm hearing Anaheim is also somewhat conditonally interested.
*-> Sean Avery apparently still has a suitor, reports still have a team badgering the Rangers to put Avery on re-entry waivers so they may claim them. A report this week had the Montreal Canadiens interested but something tells me Avery is the last thing the Canadiens need in their already falling apart dressing room.
*-> Hal Gill of the Montreal Canadiens could be had come trade deadline if the Canadiens arn't close to a playoff spot. It's said the veteran defenseman is still unsure of his future and is contemplating hanging em up after this season and the Canadiens management have yet to approach him about a new contract for next year. Several teams would love to add his Stanley Cup experience and his playoff shut-down abilities to the mix. I'm hearing Pittsburgh could be interested in bringing Gill back.
Trade! Montreal -> Calgary
Thursday, January 12, 2012
*-> It appears Mike Cammalleri's comments may have gotten the best of him as he traded along with Finnish goaltender Kari Ramo and a 5th round draft pick to the Calgary Flames for Rene Bourque, Peter Holland and a 2nd round draft pick.
The Good Fight

The Good Fight
By Mike Sharina
To say that I’m sick of the never ending “is there a place for fighting” debate would be a very huge understatement. This past summer hasn’t helped the good fight either, no pun intended. The fact that three of the National Hockey League’s tough guys all died tragic and early deaths has brought fighting once again to everyone’s attention.
Yes, this summer was tragic and I was shocked and saddened by each one of these men’s deaths. May all three rest in peace. But fighting is not to blame. If you look at each of these players as human beings, you realize they’re not just another story to try and link to fighting. Rick Rypien suffered from depression ever since he lost his childhood sweet heart in a car accident, Wade Belak struggled dealing with the end of his career and Derek Boogaard was addicted to pain killers while recovering from an injury. All three cases happen every day for thousands of people around the world. To say it’s because of fighting would be unfair. All these journalists were just salivating at the chance to try and spin a bigger picture for a bigger story but there were three individual and special ones in front of you all along.
I know one article or even a book about fighting isn’t going to end this debate or even come close to it. I’m just so sick of hearing about it and everybody jumping at the chance to slander fighting’s good name. I’m willing to take up the good fight and I’ve decided to give my take on the matter not that you asked or cared in hopes I can sway at least one intelligent mind. I know I’m not a former player nor do I have any real hockey pedigree except an unquenchable passion for the game but in the past ten years I’ve been living a beer league secret life. In this secret life I’ve experienced a tiny taste of what many of these “enforcers” have gone through and while playing I’ve truly learned what fighting means to the game. Gather around boys and girls it’s story time.
Looking at me you’d never know that I often play the part of a men’s league hockey enforcer, I’m not exactly built for the job at 5’11” and 180 pounds of beer -filled muscle. I’m also one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet. You might as well call me the beer league hockey equivalent of Dr. Jeckel and Mr. Hyde; a soft spoken, mild mannered hockey enthusiast by day and a violent, aggressive and annoying on-ice monster by night. Many readers are saying why on earth would a men’s league team that’s playing just to have fun and well drink beer need someone to fight. It’s pretty simple it’s a part of all hockey, love it or hate it.
I started playing hockey when I was 18. I was working for a retail store at the time and a close friend and co-worker convinced me to join the company team even though I had only been an outdoor rink rat up until this point. The company had a devoted six team league where each location would square each off against each other every Sunday night. I didn’t know what to expect. Every Canadian boy has dreams of being the next Wayne Gretzky or Mario Lemieux growing up so I wasn’t exactly expecting to be the men’s league Bob Probert. Did I mention I wasn’t like most kids, I DID idolize Bob Probert, and throw in Darius Kaspariatis. Two not so common favorites but I wasn’t a total monster Pavel Bure and Patrick Roy were also my childhood heroes, I cried when Roy was dealt to the Avalanche.
Anyways I bought brand new and expensive equipment, and laced up for the first time in my first pick-up game thinking this is going to be awesome. I had big visions of scoring goals until my first shift. I had the sudden realization that I was pretty much an out of shape pylon compared to most of these other guys who had played some level of hockey all their lives. I remember going home that night feeling like I embarrassed myself and was embarrassing the team. I really didn’t know what to do but decided I’d try at least one more game. To this point I’d imagined men’s league hockey as friendly and non competitive just like pick-up especially one featuring franchised stores under the same banner.
Boy, was I wrong. It’s like I had walked into the movie Slapshot and was playing in the Federal League. The referees were incompetent retail workers who probably couldn’t keep kindergarteners in line let alone boozed up men. Guys were open ice hitting, goalies were getting run left, right and center, players were squaring off at center ice without helmets and I even got the chance to witness a couple stick fights during the season. I knew from the first game on what I had to do to play and keep up with my co-workers. Fight. I didn’t have the talent with my hands to put the puck in the net or even play a defensive game but I could use my hands and sometimes my knees to keep the other teams players in check.
At first it was just because I couldn’t play the game as well as my teammates but I realized quickly that it was a necessary role in the game. Eventually I developed the talent to play but the role was still needed. The best players on any given team are going to attract attention and if you’re on the other end of the talent then you’re going to want to stop them, right? What’s the best way to stop an opposing player? By shutting him down and the best way is physically. It’s pretty much negative re-enforcement. If you getting slashed and attacked each time you try to do something obviously you’re going to either try to avoid it or stop all together after a while. If dogs can understand the nose in the mess routine, intelligent human beings can understand this as well. So to stop the other team from shutting your skilled guys down, why not ice somebody who’s willing to stick up and stop these attacks? It’s pretty simple, I’m not fully understanding what these other journalists are so confused about.
I was only playing in a weekly for fun beer league and guys were loosing teeth. Hell, I lost six to date, had two re-done, my knuckles in my right hand are scarred up and appear to be permanently swollen. But I knew it was a job that had to be done and I enjoyed doing it for my teammates despite the prospect of more root canals, countless dollars spent on teeth and having to show up at my place of business and explain yet another black eye. Many analysts say enforcers suffer from depression because they hate going out every night and knowing they have to fight for a career. I’m pretty sure most of these guys know they have to fight to obtain a pro career by the time they get into junior. Coaches try to use their players to the best of the player’s abilities so a guy with cement hands isn’t going to be expected to be the teams leading scorer and so ends the Wayne Gretzky fairy tale. If you don’t like fighting that’s when you’d exit. Guys like Georges Laraque, Bobby Probert and Donald Brashear all knew before there NHL careers began that they’d have to drop the gloves for a living so why would journalists continue to act like they were forced into this role?
What about the damage caused by impact to the head? Well, that’s a whole other ball game but my opinion still stands. If the instigator rule was taken out you’d have a lot less. It’s a lack of respect between the players that causes many of these incidents. The other half is caused by accidental contact, one of the side effects of a contact sport just ask football players. If there was more respect between the players the non accidental incidents would decrease. You’re not likely going to try and cripple a guy if you know you’re going to pay for it your next shift or even worse one of your friends is going to pay for it. Once again fighting saves the day. People say Americans don’t want fighting in the game or think it’s too dangerous. I beg to differ. Just look at the recent surge in popularity of UFC and Mixed Martial Arts. You can’t tell me that two guys going three minute round after round trying to purposely cripple their opponent isn’t any better than a 30 second fight that maybe four or five shots land.
There will always be a place for fighting in hockey because hockey is a competitive physical sport. Fighting is all about courage, respect, camaraderie and pride; a major part of hockey and something all three of those men had. I can only imagine the courage it takes knowing the night before playing a team you know you’ll have to fight against. I’ve been there myself and it would be a lie to say I didn’t think about it. I also know what it means to my team and it’s my job. Nothing can take away the feeling of the thrill of victory and knowing you’ve helped your teammates out. Even with the agony of defeat you have the respect of your teammates and peers. Yes, a loss might damage your pride but knowing what it means to each of the members of your team is reward enough.
All and all fighting is a part of the game, like it or not. You can chose to take it out of hockey but that’s not going to solve any of the so called issues many blame hockey to cause. They’ll all still exists. Millions of people hate their jobs and so what maybe a few enforcers do hate their jobs which drive them to drugs and alcohol. Thousands of people hate their jobs and are depressed because of it. It’s a fact of life. The better debate is why isn’t the league doing anything to help depression rather than debating whether or not fighting belongs in the game. Why take it out on fighting? Just because three people have the same career path and their lives ended tragically doesn’t mean their careers are to blame. It’s just the common factor shared between all three men. Look at how many rock stars overdose in a single year, there isn’t a huge debate whether or not to take music and entertainment out of the picture. If people took the time to understand the game and the role these men embraced they’d realize this rather than try and force the pieces into the places in the puzzle just to get a good story. I know many will continue to try and slander fighting’s good name, it’s inevitable. I’ll continue to fight the good fight for fighting on and off the ice and after reading this hopefully so will you.

Lots of updates coming today including a new article by yours truly but first there are rumors coming from every direction of the hockey universe to deal with first.
*-> Reports out of New York have an unidentified team who is ready to take Sean Avery off the Rangers hands as long as he's placed on re-entry waivers. It's said Glen Sather and company are looking to make a minor league deal to get Avery completely off the books instead. For the team that could be interested, your guess is as good as mine. I think we can safely rule out the Kings, the Stars and the Leafs however.
*-> Antero Nittymaki should be on the move shortly as ysterday it came out the netminder is extremely frustrated with the San Jose Sharks and would like to play hockey after being a healthy scratch and not even dressed as a backup since before Christmas. The Sharks would love to move him to clear up space for some offense it's being said in San Jose. Evgeni Nabokov may have some competition. The Columbus Blue Jackets and the Tampa Bay Lightning remain the two that keep coming up in conversation in regards to Nittymaki.
*-> After Mike Cammalleri sent shock waves through the Montreal media with his discouraging comments about the Canadiens organization it appears today he is showing some of remorse for what he said. It appears the dressing room is still behind him 100% despite the "losing attitude" comments. The Canadiens management has yet to comment but it's expected they will have a one on one with the player. I'm not hearing any whispers of moves to come but the Canadiens may have their best bargaining chip in the unhappy Cammalleri. I've heard the Ottawa Senators may ne interested but I've yet to get confirmation from my Sens insider. It would be hard to move Cammalleri's 6 million a year contract but come deadline day a team looking to add an offensive punch the Habs may be able to get a good haul to help rebuild.
*-> Ales Hemsky is being shopped around the league. The word is the Oilers are scared to lose him to another injury and could make a move sooner than later if they can get a replacement forward and a high pick in return to help them deal with their own injury woes.
*-> The Toronto Maple Leafs are being scouted by the Philadelphia Flyers. Scouts have been seen at the last 3 Toronto games and it's rumored the Flyers are looking hard at Luke Schenn to reunite with his brother. Cody Franson could also be another target.

*-> Gilbert Brule was picked off of re-entry waivers by the Phoenix Coyotes yesterday.
*-> I'm starting to hear more and more names swirl in the rumor pond in Anaheim. Earlier this week the Anaheim management came out and said the only two players who were untouchable were Teemu Selanne and Saku Koivu due to their no trade clauses and while the rest were core players maybe something has to give. Ryan Getzlaf acknowledged that his name is out there but hopes to remain with the Ducks and be one of those career team players. Most feel it's just a shake up move and bluff on behalf of the Anaheim GM but many pundits feel the shopping of Bobby Ryan earlier this season was true. I'm hearing his name out there once again this week. Toronto media is all over the Getzlaf rumors and of course Toronto is once again being listed as the main destination due to the star power and now the Brian Burke connection.
*-> I'm hearing the New York Islanders and the New Jersey Devils are speaking defensemen. Mark Streit anyone?
*-> While on the Isles I've been told the Ottawa Senators could be looking at Evgeni Nabokov. The Sens management I'm told is troubled by Craig Anderson's incosistencies and the team has no faith with Alex Auld behind them. Robin Lehner isn't ready to do spot duty yet but with only a 1 year contract for Nabby the Sens could get some help. Unfortunately for Sens fans it appears there's a lot of interest still in Nabokov around the league. The Flyers surprise surprise are mentioned as are the Leafs and the Blue Jackets. The Calgary Flames appear to be out of the mix now but rumors still place the Tampa Bay Lightning looking for help.

I hope everyone had a safe and stress free holiday season. For me it was an extremely busy season and continued the trend of this year. Hopefully this new year changes the trend! On to the rumors!
*-> Evgeni Nabokov could be on the move. I'm hearing the Islander goalie could be traded sometime in the near future to a contender. Nabokov will ultimately chose his own destination with his no trade clause but its being said he would be open to anywhere "playoff bound" with a better chance of starting than in Long Island. I've heard Tampa Bay mentioned in many circles as well as the Calgary Flames.

*-> I got a few e-mails inregards to the Eric Staal to Toronto rumors that have taken off today. I'm not a huge believer of this one as why would the Canes trade away the face of the franchise but there is some steam to this one. I'm hearing from several online sources that there could be truth if the Leafs are willing to include Nazim Khadri or Joe Colbourne in any package. The asking price would be incredible at this point so I doubt he'll be moved unless something behind the scenes indicates he's unhappy in Raleigh. I'm very skeptical and just because many people believe theirs talks it doesn't make it so.The Montreal Gazette Should Be Ashamed
Tuesday, December 13, 2011
Yesterday morning I was absolutely shocked at what I discovered and read in the Montreal Gazette in my daily search for new hockey news andrumors to report. A gutless article written by columnist Pat Hickey is what I found instead. Now I’m not one to criticize other peoples work especially written but that article was the biggest piece of B.S I have ever read. I usually love a good controversial read but this was too much, even for me.
To say Pat Hickey crossed a line would be an understatement. He not only crossed the line but he also pissed all over it. From the moment I read his opening Lede “It was the right message from the wrong messenger” I found myself shocked because to me Theo is a courageous hero. Not to take anything away from Sheldon Kennedy ether because to me anyone who has the courage to come forward and talk about their own sexual abuse is a hero but to say Theo enabled sexual abuse by not coming forward sooner is enraging.
Pat Hickey has obviously never experienced sexual abuse or known anyone close to him who has been through such trauma, nor is he even a compassionate human being for that matter. What does Pat Hickey know about sexual abuse? Nothing, so how can he judge a man for not having the strength at the time to come forward? It’s not that simple, anyone with half a brain can figure that one out.
Sheldon Kennedy at that point in his life was ready to come out and tell the world and thankfully he did, Theo was not. Yes Fleury had a lot more to lose than Kennedy but it goes much deeper than that. Yes Fleury was a star and Kennedy wasn’t, and yes Fleury had a lot more to lose than Kennedy but he has no idea what it was like for ether of them and how much hard it is to share such a horrific past. Many victims force themselves into denial by the way of drugs and alcohol the way Fleury did. And maybe do you think the fact that Fleury had much more to lose was a factor in itself? Would you Pat give up everything to re-enter a nightmare?
If you followed the news and did your research Mr. Hickey you would know that even Sheldon Kennedy maintained a loose relationship with Graham James even after he told the world his story. It sickens me to hear Pat Hickey accuse Theo of “enabling” Graham James to have access to more kids. The way it’s told makes it sound as Fleury put the young players on a platter for James. Sheldon Kennedy knew he was the coach as well, so did the other unnamed player but your not criticizing them for not speaking up even sooner. It’s not as simple as just cutting ties after going through such a traumatic event at the hands of someone like Graham James. If it was as simple as Pat Hickey makes it out to be, the epidemic of child molestation would be solved because every victim would have the instant courage to come out right away. That would be a perfect world but it’s not the case.
Here is a guy who fights tirelessly against sexual abuse and travels the country telling his story to further prevent anymore children from going through what he, Sheldon Kennedy and god knows how many other children have gone through and this cowardly writer decides to crucify him for standing up to our government and fighting to end the epidemic. Why write such a slanderous negative story on someone whose fighting for such a positive cause? In my opinion your telling child molesters all over the world if the kids don’t come forward it’s their fault and I’ve got your back. I’m sure Sheldon Kennedy will read this and be appalled by this embarrassment also.
To see this kind of trash published in such a historic newspaper is disgusting. The editors at the Montreal Gazette should be ashamed of themselves for not having the morale decency to stop this article from hitting the stands. You have officially lost an avid daily reader and someone who recommends your paper to all his followers who are fans of the Canadiens. I hope there are more people out there who are willing to write and call into the Gazette and voice their displeasure over this article and Pat Hickeys insensitive and moronic writings as I did and I hope my readers follow my lead and support Theo by boycotting the Montreal Gazette till Pat Hickey is held accountable.
Theo Fleury don’t let this one brainless writer stand in your way, keep fighting for this noble cause and all the children who have experienced sexual abuse. Here at Ice Scoopz we are behind you one-hundred percent. Thank you.
To voice your complaints to Pat Hickey and the Montreal Gazette you may reach him at this address phickey@montrealgazette.com or the Executive Editor Raymond Brassard at his e-mail rbrassard@montrealgazette.com or by phone at 514-987-2508.

*-> Antti Miettinen has signed a two year deal to play with the Tampa Bay Lightning after being released from his KHL contract. *-> I'm hearing the Ottawa Senators are currently making one last big push to deal Nikita Filatov before he takes off to play in Russia in the KHL after not being happy playing in the AHL and not seeing NHL ice time under Bryan Murray. It's said several teams are interested but are low balling the Sens. *-> I'm hearing rumblings once again out of Columbus. It's being said Derrick Brassard is being shopped at full strength. The Ottawa Senators and the Montreal Canadiens are both confirmed as interested.2011-12 World Junior Team Canada Contest

A few quick rumors and news before I hit the road. A reminder the forum is up and running so sign up today especially since this afternoon I will be unveiling the brand new contest as previous mentioned.
*-> The Anaheim Ducks have allowed Devante Smith-Pelle to attend the Team Canada World Junior training camp. The Tampa Bay Lightning have also allowed their sniper in waiting Brett Connolly to attend as well.
*-> The Team Sweden World Junior roster has been leaked by an online blogger and it looks to be a pretty tough squad once again. You can check it out here.
*-> Dougie Hamilton of the Niagra Ice Dogs signed a 3 year entry level deal last night with the Boston Bruins.
*-> Akim Aliu of the Winnipeg Jets has been loaned to EC Salzburg for the remaineder of the season.

Trade! Montreal -> Carolina
Friday, December 9, 2011
*-> The Montreal Canadiens have attempted to address their blueline problems this morning by trading the injured Jaroslav Spacek to the Carolina Hurricanes for Tomas Kaberle in a one for one deal.
The Canadiens need help on the PP something which Spacek was brought in originally for but never fit the bill. Kaberle if he can regain his previous form will easily become the Canadiens goto guy on defense with P.K Subban as long as Andrei Markov is out. This one doesn't really make sense for Carolina however. The struggling Canes need a bit more than Spacek to right the ship.

Busy week as Christmas starts the season rush, here are todays rumors and news.
*-> This morning Randy Carlyle was fired by the struggling Anaheim Ducks and quickly replaced by the recently canned Bruce Boudreau. The change was expected as it was rumored the players were too comfortable and had lost their game for Carlyle.
*-> Bobby Ryan's name has been raging around the league like a wild fire. The Anaheim Ducks are shopping him hard listening to every offer in attempt to shake up the Ducks. I'm almost every team in the league is involved I'm hearing. The Ducks are still just feeling it out though and gaging the interest because it's being said that the Ducks arn't 100% on trading Ryan quite yet but if the right offer comes to them then they'll jump. There asking for a 3 piece deal it's rumored. A pick, a prospect and a "now" player for the young sniper. The Toronto Maple Leaf's have contacted the Ducks as well as the Carolina Hurricanes. I'm also hearing the Sabres could be in the running as well. Minnesota is looking to add that offensive piece to the puzzle as well. I've heard heard the Flyers and the Rangers being mentioned by many other journalists as possible locations. It's hard to gage just because of this mornings coaching change but the Ducks maybe ready to look to the future while staying slightly competetive instead of trying to compete in the wild wild West.
*-> The Boston Bruins have resigned David Krejci to a 3 year deal this morning which should end the rumors of him being dealt out of Beantown. The deal is rumored to be worth 15.75$ million over the 3 years.
*-> Mike Grier has announced his retirement after not being able to catch on with an NHL team this fall. Grier a veteran of over a 1000 NHL games played last for the Buffalo Sabres last season.
*-> Antti Miettinen could be making a return to the NHL after 20 games in the KHL. The defensive forward was cut loose by Kazan after a sub par start to the season and not meeting high expectations. Several teams have contacted Miettinen but most have offered two-way deals which Miettinen is not looking for.
*-> Just as one leaves another replaces; Ak Bars Kazan has announced the almost done deal signing of Nashville Predator Niclas Bergfors.
*-> A trade went down in the KHL yesterday as Avangard OMSK dealt defenseman Andrei Pervyshin to SKA St. Petersburg for former Boston Bruin draft pick defenseman Yuri Alexandrov.
*-> Finally in a shocking move Salavat Yulaev have demoted former NHL defenseman Oleg Tverdovsky and former Minnesota Wild draft pick Maxim Sushinski . They'll continue to play in the VHL for UFA's farm team the "Toros" until a recall or interest is shown. Rumors have Sushinki a Russian National Team member shocked and upset by the actions. One Russian newspaper has said that a jump overseas could be possible with the struggling KHL looking to dump salaries. A reverse loan? Have we seen that yet?

Not much on the go so far this morning but good news inregards to the forum. We have one up and running now and you can access it now on the left side menu, then just click the link. I know many of you were mentioning it would be nice to be able to comment and contribute to the site so this is your forum to do so. It is a sign up style forum but it only takes 30 seconds and even then you can still browse as a guest. If you think anything should be added send me a message. I'll debut my new contest Sunday evening,
The review page we created still hasn't appeared yet on the server so it should be up anytime now so check it out once it goes up. On to the rumors...
*-> Nothing new on Kyle Turris yet, I'm keeping my ears open but many are still telling me the price is way too high now that the Coyotes are willing to just sit on him till the right offer.
*-> I'm hearing some rumors out of Toronto in regards to Cody Franson. The Leafs are denying their shopping the young blueliner but Brian Burke has admitted that he has received some offers but Burke is believed to be holding him till Mike Komisarek comes back into the fold.
*-> There's still many rumors surrounding Jeff Carter's discontent in Columbus although himself, his agent and GM all have said otherwise. The rumor mongers don't seam to believe him or want to drop this one. Usually from my experience where there is a rumor there is a tiny bit of truth but this one is a tough call as I don't see the Jackets parting with him.
*-> Sam Gagner is a player is watch as the Oilers look for a blueliner. Expect the Oil to try and dangle Gagner, Hemsky, Omark or another young name to try and add a blue chip defenseman. Lots keeps kinking Linus Omark to Carolina.

Got caught up chasing the Kyle Turris rumors yesterday afternoon then tied down at work so that second post never made it. Nothing much of interest ether way so I'll add it to today's update.
*-> The Minnesota Wild have signed men's league goaltender Paul Deutsch to a one day emergancy contract last night as Niklas Backstrom was attending to some personal affairs and would be back-up Jeff Hackett's flight was scheduled to land at 6:30pm, 30 minutes before puck drop. It all worked out for the Wild however as Hackett was able to make it to the arena minutes before the game and Deutsch was scratched. Deutsch was a friend of the team and had been used many times in the past as a practise goalie for the Wild.
*-> Niklas Bergfors is being "hunted" by several Swedish Elite League teams after being placed on waivers. Rumors have AIK leading the chase. I've also heard several KHL teams would be willing to accept a loan if the Nashville Predators were willing to get him off the books and into Europe.
*-> The New York Islanders have announced they have waived Blake Comeau. Some people are saying that several teams are interested in the struggling forward including the offense starved Predators.
*-> A minor deal in the KHL today sent Denis Bayav of Atlant Mytishchi to Siber Novosibirsh for forward Timofei Shishkanov. Atlant also signed Swedish defenseman David Petrasek to a deal this morning.
*-> I was listening to a rumor about Kyle Turris being close to traded yesterday afternoon but nothing came of it. I was told to keep a very close eye on him as something was up but nothing materialized. I heard this morning teams are waiting for the Coyote's price to drop as now that they have him signed they are in no hurry to sell off Turris and even have raised the price a bit. It looks like all the buzz on this one is starting to die. I do expect a deal but it may not be anytime soon much to Turris's wishes.

A quiet day so far on the rumor front, well a quiet week so far actually. I'm not hearing too much but just teams kicking tires as every team still feels they have a shot to make the playoffs with their current rosters and deals are more cautious than usual.
I've been working on the forum situation, and I should have that up and running this week. For those using the old site I'll keep it going for another little while most likely till after December. C.A should have another edition of Crease Crashing in the up coming weeks and I have an article on the way next week as well as this Thursday I'll have a full review of Georges Laraques book. If there's anything you'd like to see on Ice Scoopz feel free to let us know, this is your site too. Just contact me at msharina@icescoopz.ca.
Finally for the last contest winner DWYZ please re-submit your information as I've yet to receive it. I still have your gift card ready to go which leads me into the next contest which will help debut our new forum next week so stay tuned.
*-> Stuart Percy of the St. Michael's Majors was signed to a 3 year deal by the Toronto Maple Leaf's yesterday./
*-> Not hearing too much on the Kyle Turris front although I got a chance to talk to my Sens connect and was told the Sens are still interested but he hasn't heard much the last couple of days. He did tell me to watch Brian Lee. I tried to ask about the Filip Kuba to Edmonton rumors and the only response I recieved was a chuckle.
*-> As for the other teams I'm hearing the Leaf's arn't looking at Turris heavily anymore as they are looking to trade Cody Franson pretty badly at this point. There has been talks of Florida trading Scott Clemmenson to the Leafs for Franson but I'm also hearing the possibility of Jose Theodore. I've also heard that before Evgeni Nabokov got hurt that they were interested but James Riemer is making unexpected progress. The Leafs are showcasing Jonas Gustafsson and once again are attempting to deal the Monster.
*-> Finally I'm hearing that Turris has been told he'll be moved as part of the signing deal, both parties will get what they wanted. Phoenix wont settle for just anything and are holding teams to high price. I'm also hearing the Yotes wont even look to teams in the West....so far.
More around lunch.

*-> It appears the Kyle Turris fued is over as the Coyotes management and Turris has agreed to a 2 year deal. I'm hearing light rumblings of a deal in the works. I'll stay on it and make a few calls. *-> A rumor has Scott Clemmenson going to the Toronto Maple Leafs for a late pick as the Florida looks to unload their struggling back-up to make way for Jacob Markstrom. *-> Rick Nash's agent has denied his client is unhappy in Columbus and is fully commited to the franchise. Scott Howson has also said while teams have asked about Nash he's telling them he's not on the table. I'm hearing that Derrick Brassard and Antoine Vermette are on the table for sure. *-> Jason Strudwick formerly of the Edmonton Oilers has signed a deal to play in the SEL.Ice Scoopz: Friday Morning

*-> A recent video has surfaced of Tuukka Rask of the Boston Bruins throwing a temper tantrum in practice Wednesday morning has started a wave of rumors claiming the Briuins back-up wants out of Beantown. I'm not hearing much more than it's just a case of a frustrated player venting in practice caught by social media. The Bruins have yet to address the incident but I'm sure even if something was up the B's management wouldn't tell. It's a known fact that Rask wants to play and is the Bruins goalie of the future but Tim Thomas stands in his way so it makes sense for Rask who has starter potential to be upset. I doubt however he'd want to leave a solid team like the Bruins. Bruins management is also maintaining they will not trade Rask.
*-> This brings me to a wild rumor out of Boston. The rumor has the Bruins sending Tuuka Rask and a 1st draft pick to Columbus for Rick Nash. It doesn't quite make sense unless the Bruins were able to ship another body to Columbus to help relieve some of the cap hit. I'm not fully sold on the Blue Jackets shopping Nash at the moment but anythings possible when the franchise is collapsing. If Nash is unhappy and the Jackets are actually shopping him, It's gunna take a lot more than just Rask to pry the franchise forward out of Ohio. The Jackets would need a star offensive stud as well in return.
*-> No news on the Marty Turco to Toronto rumors. It's still being said that Toronto is looking at all avenues for goaltending. Bring on the Rask coming back to Toronto rumors soon to hit the net.
*-> I'm hearing after last nights defensive lapses against the Ottawa Senators the Edmonton Oilers are searching for some defensive help. The Oilers are rumored to be willing to part with a young player like M.P.S to land a prized defenseman with the emergence of the "Nuge" and Anton Lander.
*-> Chris Simon has signed a deal to stay in the KHL for another season. This year the scrappy Simon will lace up for Metallurg Magnitogorsk beside Sergei Fedorov.
*-> Los Angeles Kings scouts have been keeping a close eye on free agent World Junior standout Benjamin Conz. The Kings could be looking to ink the Geneve-Servette netminder.for next season.
*-> Last of all the New York Islanders have announced that they will debut their new 3rd jerseys next Wednesday at home against the Flyers.

I've been working hard on my top 10 draft list I'll be debuting tonight in the scouting section as well as trying to get you guys a forum to voice your thoughts and opinions on the lastest news and rumors so hopefully that can be resolved tonight as well. For now here's today's news.
*-> Last night the Montreal Canadiens signed Vancouver Giant Brendan Gallagher to a 3 year entry level deal. The financial terms were not disclosed. Great signing for the Habs, this kid impressed me this preseason and I was surprised when he was sent back to junior without a deal.
*-> The Minnesota Wild were forced to sign Houston Aero Kris Fredheim to a 3 year entry level deal this morning after yet another blueline injury. Expect the Wild to take a look around the league for some help if any of these injuries turn into longterm situations. I've heard minor interest from the Wild in Brian Lee, last season clubs did talk about the first rounder.
*-> Bob McKenzie has tweeted that the Columbus Blue Jackets have placed enforcer Cody Bass on waivers.
Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Afternoon
Wednesday, November 16, 2011
*-> Brian Burke is denying interest in free agent goaltender Marty Turco while Turco's agent has confirmed being in contact with the Leafs. It's strange that Burke is denying interest while Turco's camp is confirming it, maybe now he's no longer interested after speaking with his agent but Brian Burke is one of the best at keeping a straight face and playing the smoke and mirrors game.
*-> The New York Islanders GM Garth Snow is denying any trades on the horizon concerning Evgeni Nabokov but did not deny showcasing him.
*-> Aaron Voros has signed a deal with the Connecticut Whale this morning.
*-> Bob McKenzie has tweeted that Chicago has placed Rotislav Olesz on waivers this morning.

Sorry folks I've been in and out of the hospital visiting my dad so I've been tied up the past couple of days and unable to reports but everythings going well and now it's on to the rumors.
*-> The Ottawa Senators are continuing their pursuit of Desert Dog Kyle Turris. Don Maloney is still maintaining that he isn't shopping the centerman but I'm still hearing otherwise. It is doubtful however that the Coyotes will move him untill ether he signs a deal or until the final hours before December 1st. There are at least 8 teams interested inTurris but Ottawa, Calgary and Toronto remain the strongest bidders.
*-> There are also rumors going around the Ottawa Senators are looking at Darrick Brassard of the Columbus Blue Jackets but there appears to be better potential suitors than the Sens. It's believed that GM Scott Howson is looking for solid veteran goalie or some instant help at any posistion before he moves Brassard. I'm trying to dig deeper into this one but apart from rumors I've yet to hear anything solid. Some have said that the Islanders and the Jackets are talking Nabokov....
*-> Last bit of Sens news, it appears Nikita Filatov once again is unhappy playing in the AHL. Reports out of Russia have CSKA Moscow highly interested in the Russian sniper and willing to take him on loan.
*-> I'm hearing reports the Toronto Maple Leafs have spoken with Marty Turco in the past couple of days. With James Riemer out for what appears to be long term and the Monster not able to gain Ron Wilsons confidence the Leafs will look at all options.
*-> Niklas Hagman was claimed off re-entry waivers by the Anaheim Ducks yesterday for half the price while the Calgary Flames remain on the hook for the other half.
*-> Mikko Koskinen of the New York Islanders has gone back to Finland to join KalPa of the SM Liiga while goaltender Ari Ahonen has left KalPa in a loan to Metallurg Magnitogorsk of the KHL due to Koskinen's arrival.

Here's the rest of this mornings rumors
*-> Linus Omark's name keeps coming up, a major rumor keeps spinning it's wheels saying the shootout specialist could be headed to Carolina soon if the Edmonton Oiler's keep rolling along.
*-> It's believed that Frolunda, HV71, and MODO of the SEL as well as Neftekhimik of the KHL are all highly interested in Mats Zuccarello if the New York Rangers decide to loan him overseas.
*-> I'm hearing that the Islanders are lining up suitors for Evgeni Nabokov as he's extremely restless in Long Island and wants out. He could be on the move today, there are rumors that Fedor Tyutin could be sent to the Islanders for Nabby. I'm hearing the Toronto Maple Leafs and Columbus Blue Jackets remain the front runners but St. Louis, Winnipeg and Calgary have interest now too.
*-> Marty Turco continues to shop himself around the league and is still maintaining he could be had for cheap and is willing to accept a mentoring role. Columbus anyone?
*-> As I type this Bob McKenzie has twittered that he's been told Fedor Tyutin will not be traded from the Columbus Blue Jackets. It wouldn't make much sense if he were but who knows with the Blue Jackets.
More in a bit
Ice Scoopz: Friday Morning
Friday, November 11, 2011
Lots of new rumors on the go after a day off. We'll start with the several waiver claims made yesterday.
*-> The Anaheim Ducks claimed forward Ben Maxwell off waivers from the Winnipeg Jets.
*-> The St. Louis Blues lost Taylor Chorney to the Edmonton Oilers.
*-> Mattias Ritola was waiver yesterday by the Tampa Bay Lightning then loaned to MODO of the SEL after not being claimed.
Now on to the rumors I'll start with the situation in Columbus
*-> I'm hearing lots of rumblings out of Columbus today. I received a text yesterday from a buddy saying "watch Nash". From what I'm hearing around the league is Rick Nash may be unhappy in Columbus and ready to pull the plug after watching his franchise consistently bomb. There's not doubt that absolutely nothing has worked out for the Blue Jackets except Rick Nash and maybe the signing of Vinny Prospal. Most of their high level prospects have busted and or have struggled with their careers playing in Columbus. Lets take a journey back in time for a second and look at where the Jackets first rounders have gone
2011(8th) - None - Traded to Philadelphia (Sean Couturier) with a 3rd Round Pick 2011 (Nick Cousins) and Jakub Voracek for Jeff Carter
2010 (4th) - Ryan Johansen -
2009 (21st) - John Moore -
2008 (6th) - Nikita Filatov - Trade to Ottawa for 3rd Round Pick 2011 (Thomas Tynan)
2007 (7th) - Jakub Voracek - Trade to Philadelphia for Jeff Carter with 2011 1st Round Pick (Sean Couturier) and 2011 3rd Round Pick (Nick Cousins)
2006 (6th) - Derek Brassard -
2005 (6th) - Gilbert Brule - Trade to Edmonton for Raffi Torres
2004 (8th) - Alexandre Picard - Trade to Phoenix for Chad Kolarik
2003 (4th) - Nikolai Zherdev - Trade to New York Rangers with Dan Fritsche fro Christian Backman and Fedor Tyutin
2002 (1st) - Rick Nash -
2001 (8th) - Pascal Leclaire - Trade to Ottawa with a 2nd Round Pick 2009 (Robin Lehner) for Antoine Vermette
2000 (4th) - Rostislav Klesla - Trade to Phoenix with Dane Byersfor Scottie Upshall, and Sami Lepisto
So when looking at the above for a team that has essentially picked in the top 10 for the past 10 years the Blue Jackets should boast a pretty good line-up. When Rick Nash and Rostislav Klesla (both of which were Doug Maclean era picks btw) have been your only real success the problem lies with the scouting staff and management. Ryan Johansen is their only real blue chipper in the organization and Rick Nash after being promised the ship would turn around for many years now is undoubtedly frustrated. So I believe the rumors about him being unhappy in Ohio. I don't think Rick Nash is the type to request a trade but we do remember he did test the waters of free agency in 2009. The more the ship continues to sink I have a feeling the Rick Nash rumors will persist. I highly doubt anything in Columbus is going to change without a complete overhaul of the management and even the roster.
*-> Bob McKenzie of TSN believes a deal is in the works to send defenseman Fedor Tyutin somewhere and the Nikitin deal could be a prelude to something bigger. I've been hearing Tyutin's name dropped a few times as well so we'll have to watch him over the next few hours. As for destinations I'm hearing Dallas and Montreal so far.
Trade! Columbus -> St. Louis
Friday, November 11, 2011
*-> The Columbus Blue Jackets were at it again this morning as they dealt defenseman Kris Russell to the St. Louis Blues for defenseman Nikita Nikitin. Just another shake-up move? Or is this another setup move? I have a feeling this isn't all for the Blue Jackets but I also have a feeling this is all there able to find at the current time.

*-> The Philadelphia Flyers have resigned Braydon Coburn to a 4 year 18$ million dollar deal this morning. Coburn has been a steady presence for the Broad Street Bullies but $4.5 million per season is a bit steap especially when moving forward with an expensive roster.
*-> Not hearing much on my mornings rumors on Boston and Florida except people are saying the Bruins are highly interested in Stephen Weiss and reuniting him with Nathen Horton. David Krejci maybe the return? I'll keep listening out for anything new.
*-> GM Scott Howson of the Columbus Blue Jackets has told the Columbus media that acquiring Mark Letestu this morning isn't leading up to another deal. I beg to differ Letestu alone isn't going to put the Jackets into contention or even close, plus this appears to be a stocking up depth move.
More around 3pm.
Ice Scoopz: Wednesday Morning + Trades

The last couple of days I've received a few e-mails about adding a comments section to my blog so in the next couple of days I'll be adding a forum again. Last time around it not many people chose to use it and would rather comment on each post but a forum has so many options and I feel is the better way to go. If it goes well I'll also look at adding a brief comment section per post.
Some KHL news then a couple of minor trades to tell you about.
*-> Former Montreal Canadien and Nashville Predator Oleg Petrov has found a new team for the season. Petrov will join AK Bars Kazan for the remainder of the season.
*-> In other KHL news Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk has confirmed interest in New York Ranger Mats Zuccarello.
*-> I'm hearing rumors of the Florida Panthers and the Boston Bruins talking shop this morning. The recently surging Bruins are reportedly seaking a depth defenseman and yes more offense although they have out scored their opponents 18-5 in the last 3 games played.
*-> Last night the Columbus Blue Jackets acquired Mark Letestu from the Pittsburgh Penguins for a 4th round pick in 2012. Looks like the Jackets are trying to add anything cheap possible to help their ailing club. I'm hearing they need to make the playoffs this year or else so expect some kind of push to come.
*-> The Washington Capitals also made a minor deal this morning and dealt Francois Bouchard to the New York Rangers for defenseman Tomas Kundratek. Not much to comment on for this one except both teams look to be address depth needs at the AHL level. Doubtful ether will have any impact on their parant clubs.
More rumors around noon stay tuned!
Ice Scoopz: Tuesday Morning/Afternoon
Tuesday, November 8, 2011
Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend, I got some much need R&R. Not much on the go today except a few calls in regards to the recent Daniel Alfresson rumors which we'll start with. This post was meant for this morning but got completely tied up till now but anyways on with the rumors.
*-> I know everyone by now has heard the crazy Alfredsson trade rumors that has swept the internet. To me these rumors don't make any kind of sense as why would anyone inquire about a freshly injured Daniel Alfredsson. Especially when it's a serious head injury to an aging player which many believe is way more serious than predicted. If you haven't heard the rumors they consist of Alfredsson being sent to ether the Vancouver Canucks (Swede connections i.e the Sedins) or the Edmonton Oilers (youth movement) both highly covet Alfredssons leadership abilities and on ice determination and talent. I wasn't fishing for anything on the Alfredsson subject with my source but was told randomly that Alfredsson is untouchable for now but here's the kicker it's believed he'd be willing to take a trade possibly before retiring as long as it's a hopeful shot. I was told the management on the other hand isn't feeling the same way. Eugene Melnyk is a huge Alfie fan and mosty likely would nix any deal for the captain especially since he feels the Sens still have playoff talent this season.
*-> Lots of Cory Schnieder rumors swirling as well, nevermind the silly Roberto Luongo rumors. Columbus is possibly interested as they need some help badly for young Steve Mason. They were previously looking for a veteran goalie but it's believed they could shop Mason while teams still have high hopes. Another destination would be to send Schnieder out of the West and to the New Jersey Devils where they will need a future replacement for the aging Martin Brodeur. I've also heard whispers of Luongo to NJ as well but I'm not convinced yet the Canucks are ready to pull the plug.
*-> On the Kyle Turris watch, it appears to be slowing down for now. Not much new out there, or at least I'm not hearing much new. Don Maloney went on the record Saturday night on Hockey Night In Canada and said he will not trade Turris. It seams this is about principal for Maloney and the Coyotes. It's still believed he's avaliable but Maloney is determined that a sign and trade deal is what has to happen otherwise Turris will sit and rot. The Turris camp are reportedly shopping his services and do not want any part of the Coyotes so this could get ugly before it gets done. But the key is Maloney keeps insisting that he's not shopping him. Then again the St. Louis Blues also said there wasn't going to be any coaching changes any time soon nor would Ken Hitchcock ever be the coach of the Blues so. The Toronto Maple Leafs are rumored to be yet another NHL team interested in Turris.
*-> Evgeni Nabokov is attraching interest around the league, I'm hearing at least two teams were scouting him last week. Columbus as mentioned above and rumored to also be watching are the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Well back to the office, I had a chance to start reading Georges Laraques book that comes out soon so I should have a review shortly. If anyone hasn't checked out Cody Ackland's column in the column section check it out. It's a great read and even I enjoyed it despite my Jeremy Roenick like position on Sid the Kid

It's quiet once again on the rumor front but a few trades went down this morning in the KHL.
*-> Metallurg Magnitogorsk traded Maxim Spiridonov and Konstantin Glazachev to Ak Bars Kazan for Dmitri Kaionov and Nikolai Lemtyugov.
*-> Alexander Sazonov was traded from Neftekhimik to Vityaz Chekhov for Andrei Kolesnikov.
*-> Mats Zuccarello of the New York Rangers is reportedly attracting interest from several KHL teams as reports are saying he's unhappy playing in the AHL. I don't think anything is going to come of this unless he's loaned by the Rangers as the two leagues have an agreement now but anythings possible.

*-> TSN has just confirmed our rumor this afternoon that the New York Rangers have indeed signed defenseman Anton Stralman to a 1 year 900K deal.
*-> The Providence Bruins have signed NHL veteran Chris Clark to a professional try-out at the recommendation of the Boston Bruins this afternoon.
*-> Cody Franson of the Toronto Maple Leafs is avaliable. Rumors have Franson upset with his ice time and usage in Toronto. I'm hearing both the Blue Jackets and the Rangers although it doesn't make much sense with the Rangers signing Stralman.
*-> The Phoenix Coyotes are telling teams that they will not trade Kyle Turris unless they can sign him first. They refuse to back down according to the management and even if a trade is reached they wish to send a message to their players.

Lots of rumors starting to brew today it appears the Columbus Blue Jackets and Boston Bruins are the two names that keep resurfacing to no surprise. Check out the wicked first edition of Crease Crashing by CA today by clicking the text or heading to the Columns page.
*- Not much new on Kyle Turris and the Phoenix Coyotes today. I am hearing the Senators are still leading the way, from what i hear Bryan Murray is extremely high on Turris and covets him as their second line center but are expecting more of a deal like they had with the Blue Jackets for Nikita Filatov rather than the high price being asked. The Flames are attempting to package Matt Stajan in any deal people are saying but the yotes are still contract weary and are looking for youth who can help now rather than unwanted cap hits.
*- The Boston Bruins brass has admitted to kicking tires around the league in order to help right the ship. Although management has said they don`t want to rip apart their Stanley Cup roster they have to do diligance and take a look tpo see what options they have. Rene Bourque`s name has come up several times linked to the B`s. In my opinion once the Bruins offence gets going they`ll be alright, maybe a minor move to shake them up but it`s all part of the Cup Hangover right.
*- The New York Rangers continue to talk to a free agent defenseman, Anton Stralman is the man I believe their interested in.

A few quick whispers from around the league..
*-> Kyle Turris is rumored to have up to 8 teams interested in him. The Columbus Blue Jackets have reportedly entered the fray. Ottawa still seams to be the consensus favorite but arn't willing to pay the Coyotes the steap price being asked.
*-> Evgeni Nabokov is gaining interest around the league. Some are saying the Solumbus Blue Jackets would love to add some insurance while many are saying that Toronto is ready to pull the plug on Jonas Gustavsson and bring in support for James Riemer. I'm not too sold on the Leafs interested yet although there is the Ron Wilson connection. It isn't a secret when Rick DiPietro gets healthy the odd man out is Nabokov. No way Dipietro is going anywhere.
*-> The Edmonton Oilers are silently shopping Linus Omark around the league. The skilled winger has sat the last 5 Oiler games and isn't keen on heading back to the AHL again. Remember Omark holds a return to the KHL clause if he's unhappy. It's said several teams in the East are interested but most teams continue to try and barter for Ales Hemsky. I'm hearing the Habs and the Canes both love Hemsky.

*-> The Kyle Turris watch is on. I was contacted by a source telling me that the Ottawa Senators have been in contact with the Phoenix Coyotes in regards to Turris. My source informed me although GM Don Maloney is denying shopping the holding out Turris the Yotes are listening for offers. Apparently they have been in talks with at least 4 teams Calgary I'm hearing is the second Canadian team. The Coyotes brass are still denying any movement of Turris and still claim their ok with him sitting out but those appear to be scare tactics. My source tells me that Phoenix is asking an arm and a leg however. The asking price is rumored to be a 1st round pick, or a combo of both a defensive and forward prospects according to my source.
*-> The New York Rangers are in talks with a free agent defenseman, it looks like Marc Staal could be out even longer than believed. Some are saying Bryan McCabe but I highly doubt McCabe is in the mix.
*-> I'm hearing rumblings of a possible Marty Turco signing. Turco is in shape and ready to settle for the minimum salary along with a strictly back up role. Recently several pundits have linked him to Columbus while I'm hearing Toronto. *-> Ville Nieminen has signed a deal this morning in the KHL with Dynamo Riga.

We’re back! Finally! As the days start to tick down to our launch of the new icescoopz.ca I think now’s a good time to unveil some of our plans for the new site. I’ve been working day and night to get this off the ground for November so the blogger version of the site took a back seat for the start of the season. We had a few setbacks and we were hoping to get going by October but set a more realistic date for November. So here’s what’s going on
To start it’s going to be the same old Ice Scoopz site. We’ll have daily news and rumors updated at least once a day. We’ve added more sources so more sources means more rumors. Plus way better coverage on trades with more analysis on each deal that goes down. We’re also working on a “Trade” app that keeps you up to the minute on your smart phone.
I also had the chance to add several columnists to our team that will add a new element to the site. We’re proud to announce a weekly column by Cody Ackland will be featured giving C.A’s take on the current events in the world of hockey. C.A has been a key contributor on this site since its beginnings and also a close friend whose hockey opinions are next to none. We also will feature several other guest columnists to add their opinion and insight to the site.
I’ll be unveiling my new column “Back-Checking” that will play catch-up with former NHL stars and offer their thoughts on the next generation of hockey.
We will also be offering more yearly league reviews, and predictions than in the past. NHL, KHL and CHL mainly will be featured. More CHL coverage as requested. The same in-depth coverage of the Trade Deadline and July 1st will be present but with more World Junior coverage this time around.
Scouting reports galore, my monthly rankings and complete scouting reports on draft eligible players. A prospect update column has also been added which will spotlight a player in this year’s NHL entry draft. Wenow will be free-lancing our services to scouts and teams around the world and target specific players in the CHL, AHL and even Europe for a small fee.
Lots more giveaways than before with cool prizes that will involve some thought inducing contests including our yearly Free Agent Frenzy and so on.
A podcast is also in the works that will be a round table discussion prospects to league rules so pretty much about everything hockey.
In the next couple of weeks a weekly schedule will be posted showing when to expect what feature. If you have any suggestions or comments we’d love to hear them. Feel free to drop us a line in the Contact Us section.
Thanks to everyone who uses and supports Ice Scoopz, it’s only going to get better so keep making us your number one stop for everything hockey!
